Structural design and historic preservation for renovation of 100 year old wood and brick masonry dormitory.

A discussion of the design considerations and challenges to renovating an unreinforced brick masonry and wood framed dormitory. Topics to include:

  • Building assessment
  • Code criteria
  • New use and modifications
  • Seismic upgrade

Eric Hagberg earned a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Initially pursuing a double major of architecture and engineering, Eric brings an understanding of design to his approach to structural engineering. Eric spent his early years with well-known Atlanta firms O'Kon and Company and Harald Nielsen Associates. Eric has been with Palmer Engineering Company since 1999 where he is currently Vice President and partner in the firm. His design experiences range from military aviation facilities and office buildings to adaptive reuse, historic preservation, retail, residential, signage, and renovation of many types. Eric is a member of SEAOG, NCEES and AISC. He is currently registered in Georgia and South Carolina.
